Lenovo Montevina notebook users are going to be recieving a new BIOS update next month which will add among other features, the ability to remotely turn off the notebook along with a message of the user’s choice. This should come in handy when notebooks are stolen and sensitive material is compromised. The technology relies on the WWAN connection of the notebook which will respond when sent a specific string from a paired phone. Upon shut down, the culprit would then be subject to a preset message from the user. Lenovo warns its users however that this should not be treated as a first line of defense and users should still take care of their notebook.
