Apple recently recalled all their chargers that came with the iPhone 3G because of a safety issue. The iPhone charger recall was needed because apparently the metal prongs were breaking off and becoming stuck in electrical outlets which posed a safety issue. There were no reports of injuries fortunately, and Apple will replace your charger free of charge. Apple will be sending out replacement chargers on October 10th, information regarding the recall can be found on the Apple website. Here at iPhoneSpies we managed to get our hands on one before everyone else and we’re happy to announce they work great. It hasn’t broken on us yet. So be sure to check out the Apple site or head on over to the Apple store for your replacement.

The Center of Disease Control says that cases of the herpes simplex virus-1 (HSV-1) are up 230-percent from 2007 in people from 17 to 21. They claim that sharing cups during the popular college sport of Beer Pong. University officials are beginning to act on this epidemic.

“This epidemic is something we should pay close attention to. We’re aware that we cannot outright prevent [beer pong], so we have provided new red cups available to all students in the dorms,” said President of Arizona State University, Michael M. Crow.”

CDC spokesman Dr. Cole Desorio gives advice on ways to avoid the spread of herpes:

“Flip cup is great because each individual has their own cup. If it’s absolutely necessary to play beer pong, use the waterfall method. Many young adults, when asked if they practice safe pong, responded that they rinse the ball after it bounces off the table.”

Remember people, practice safe beer pong.

Looks like Dodge and Nissan are working together to keep their truck lines alive. Rumor is the Nissan Titan will feature Chrysler’s 5.7L HEMI V8 although Nissan claims their 5.6L engine may still be used. The HEMI 5.7L is a great engine with its class-leading 390 horses and somewhat decent fuel mileage. Both companies would benefit from such a deal, Chrysler will still be able to sell their engines although in another truck and Nissan won’t have to spend as much on R&D. We’ll see how this pans out.

Even in a down pickup truck market, the all-new Dodge Ram should be a boon to Chrysler and not just because it’s a far better truck than the one it replaces. The new Ram will also be the next Nissan Titan, a deal that helps Chrysler keep its truck factories running closer to maximum capacity. With Nissan borrowing Ram mechanicals and engineering, the assumption has been that Chrysler’s 5.7L HEMI V8 was going to be part of the package. Nissan officials have continually denied that any decision about the truck’s engine of choice has yet to be made and that its own Evolution 5.6L powerplant was still under consideration.

Chrysler chairman Jim Press put any speculation to rest when he declared at an LA Motor Guild meeting recently that the Nissan Titan would indeed receive HEMI power. After our friend Mike Levine from Pickuptrucks.com broke the news, Nissan responded by saying that it has made no decisions concerning the HEMI engine and when it does, the announcement would come from Nissan. It makes sense that the next Titan would be HEMI-fied, especially considering that the engineering needed to mate the HEMI and Ram platform has already been done and paid for, and part logistics are already in sync with truck assembly. Plus, the new HEMI produces a class-leading 390 horsepower and gets decent fuel economy for a big, burly truck engine. Nissan could do much worse.
